Importing/Pasting a WORD document into a worksheet (HELP, Please (2000))

    Good morning,

I've developed a very cool spreadsheet (with the help of others on this site) and I've also written instructions on how to use it. The instructions are 9 pages long. I thought it would be cool to have an "Instructions" worksheet and put the Word document in there.

I read the Help files and it suggested that I Copy and "Paste Special" into the worksheet.

I tried that, but found the following:
    - It only pasted one page at a time, even though I had all 9 pages highlighted.
    - It messed up the left margin... smashed everything flush with the left edge of the white space.

I took another approach and "Inserted" each page (one at a time) in a vertical manner as .gif files. Problem is, these are static images and each will need to be replaced as the documentation changes.

    Does anyone have a recommendation for easily importing/pasting the entire WORD document into a worksheet. <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>

I would recommend against inserting a Word document in a spreadsheet.

You could insert a hyperlink to the Word document in the spreadsheet. Clicking the hyperlink will open (the current version of) the Word document in its own window.

Hans... thanks, I thought of that... but would prefer to make this a stand-alone file. I may be forced to do that though............

If you had a short instruction, you could paste it into a text box on the worksheet. But with 9 pages, that is not an attractive option.

Why not just put the directions in a different worksheet and bypass the WORD file completely...

I thought about that... but have never composed "documentation" (including inserted screen captures) into a worksheet. I'm more familiar with WORD or html coding.......

I also use lots of "bullets" and indenting.

I'll give that a try. The documentation is done..... maybe I can just copy and paste <img src=/S/question.gif border=0 alt=question width=15 height=15> and the formatting will stay the same... except for the images.

Excel is a spreadsheet program, not a word processor. I do not think that you are going to be happy with the results you will get with the formatting you are going to get in Excel, particularly with things like bullets. Hans' suggestion of a hyperlinked file is probably the best your are going to do.
