Curious

I'm using Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 and happened to check "Who's Online" and noticed I was using [N4] for my browser (see attached). Just curious, where is the [N4] coming from?

Claude will have to tweak the Lounge software to recognize IE7, but don't count on anything while it's still in beta.

Your browser is updated when you view/edit your profile page. Have you tried viewing/editing your profile to see if it changes what you see in "Who's Online"?

As far as I know, that shouldn't be necessary. I normally use Internet Explorer, but occasionally run FireFox for testing purposes. This is reflected immediately in Who's Online.

I stand corrected... it actually updates when you view your controls page.

Re: Curious

Hi Mark,
I "play" with 4 browsers on this machine (IE7 beta 2, Firefox 1.0.7, Opera 8.53 and Netscape 7.2) and just to see if I could "see myself" I went to Who's Online with all 4 at the same time....I didn't see myself in another machine. But each listing was correct on which ever browser I brought it up with.

Re: Curious

Getting back to your actual question... Judging by the above responses, I'm guessing the simple answer is we don't know why it shows up as [N4]. I've had a quick google for various combinations of "browser recognition", "Internet Explorer 7" and "N4" but haven't come up with anything. Of course, "N4" is used sometimes as an abbreviation for Netscape 4. I'm sure we could come up with some conspiracy theory about that.

Re: Curious

I'm pretty sure N4 is indeed Netscape 4 and is probably the default setting - i.e. if it's not one of the browsers specifically listed in the code, it's N4.

Ah, that makes sense. Good thinking.
