Req: Book to assist relational design (2k, sr0)

    Hi all
I seem to recall that some people have recommended a MS book on database design, but I can't remember the name.

    Can anyone help?

    Many thanks

If you want to get truly serious about relational database design, you can also look into 'Database Principles, Programming, and Performance' by Patrick and Elizabeth O'Neil, ISBN 1-55860-438-3 or ISBN 1-55860-580-0 (paperback).

This is an 800+ page textbook and I would suggest not dropping it on your toes, but it is a standard text and reference for learning, designing and managing relational databases. It is more oriented toward database servers like Oracle, Informix and SQL Server but the principles apply to Access as well.

Many thanks for your responses Charlotte

I had already been suggested the Mere Mortals book, it seems to have reasonably good reviews. As you guessed it was the Access DB design & Prog book I had heard good things about.

As I am being trained in Oracle DB and design I am interested in the O'Neil book. I shall be training students in entity relationships and design of DB and I want to get as into it as possible.

I have also seen very good reviews of "Inside Relational Databases" (ISBN 354076092X), don't know if anyone here has experience of it?

    regards

    Stuart

If 'Inside Relational Databases' is written by Mark Whitehorn and someone else who's name escapes me (I can't check the ISBN/Authors as my copy has been permanently borrowed!) it is very good but out of print. I believe that a second, updated and enhanced edition is imminent.

That's the one. Lurid green cover (according to Amazon). The other author is Bill Marklyn. Amazon reckons it can obtain it in 4 to 6 weeks (which I seem to recall is their local definition of infinity).
