Extra commas in the category line (Outlook 2003/SP1)

<font face="Comic Sans MS">I have a user who suddenly has a bunch of commas appearing on the category line of his contacts instead of SOME of the categories. For instance, He had assigned Jane Doe to the Business, Holiday Card, SEM and ACME categories. When he views the contact for Jane Doe today, the category line shows Business, Holiday Card,,,,,,,,,

Has anyone seen this before?</font face=comic>

That looks really bad. Did the categories somehow disappear from the "master list"? (I've never seen this before. But I don't use categories.)
