    Template and Protection (2003)

I have created a document to be used as a template by other staff. The document has two drop-down fields, two regular text fields and I have specifically set the font, colour and some paragraph requirements for the document. Now, the drop down fields and text fields are at the top of the document and I put in a break just below that to allow for protection for that area only. Below these two fields, I want the user to be able to input whatever they want; typing, tables, hyperlinks etc. but specifically in the font and colour I need. In order to protect the document, I have to choose an editing restriction - I thought I should choose "Filling in Forms", however this prevents any user input below the break I put in.

What am I doing wrong here?

    TIA, Deb

In earlier versions of Word, there was a set of radio buttons reading "Tracked Changes", "Comments", "Forms" and next to the word Forms was a button labeled "Sections..." where you could specify to only protect the first section. I have no idea how Word 2003 have evolved the interface, but the concept of limiting protection to portions of the document still exists if you can only find the right dialog. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Deb
I suggest that you search the Word Help file for " Allow editing in a protected document ", and take note of steps 3 and 4.

When you choose "Protect for forms" a blue text label reading "Select Sections..." appears immediately underneath the drop down list box.

Thanks Stuart and Don. Not at work right now and running 2000 at home. I will check tomorrow for the suggestions you're offering. It sounds like I was having a "blind" hour at work today! The answer was apparently right there and I must have missed it.

    Thanks for taking the time.
