Show Available Styles Only by default (2002/SP1)

In Microsoft Word 2002/SP1, is there a way to make the default list under "Styles and Formatting" to show ONLY "Available Styles". I know I can go to the bottom of the Styles and Formatting window and click "Show:Available Styles" but I would like that to be the default. I am helping someone get started with a thesis and I am trying to explain the mind-boggling topic of Styles to her. Anything that can reduce confusion helps!
    Thanks,
    Alex

The selected option is stored with the document, so if you want "Available Styles" to be the default for blank new documents, open Normal.dot, select "Available Styles", then save and close Normal.dot.

    Hans,

    Great. I'll try that.

    Thanks,
