Bus Speed

How can I find the bus speed of my motherboard bus speed?

    Regards,

    Re: Bus Speed

In the UK, we would ask the bus conductor (if there still is one), or the bus driver! !
("There will be another one along in a minute...").

Almost every program which gives information about the hardware of a PC will give you bus speeds, among which (probably!):

Belarc Advisor
System Information for Windows (SIW)
PC Wizard 2006 and its friend, CPUZ / CPUID
SiSoftware Sandra
...[/list]You need to be clear which of the several buses you are talking about, though.

    Re: Bus Speed

All the information you should need will be in the manual that came with the motherboard.

assuming you still have that stored somewhere.

Don't have a manual for this motherboard that was a replacement in January for mine -- we held services at the time, then spread the ashes over the Silicon Valley.

    Re: Bus Speed

That is usually the system bus when referred to at the same time as the processor.

    Joe:

Is that integral to the motherboard, or can you get a faster one, say, separately?

    Re: Bus Speed

FSB speed is a function of the Motherboard and not available as an add-on. The CPU and the MB must both be compatible of running at a certain FSB.

    Hans:

    Thanks... that was quick.

Via Sandra, my system info shows:

    2x 134MHz (268Mhz data rate)

Haven't I seen or heard of bus speeds as much as 4 times faster? And if so, would this have a 'noticeable' effect on system speed?

    Regards,
    Chuck

    Re: Bus Speed

Read the link Hans provided, Chuck, and chalk it up to your motherboard as all have said here. Unless you want to replace your motherboard, live with what you've got. I have a brand new Dell P4 3.2 gig processor with FSB of 800 and I have no idea what that means to me on a day-to-day, minute-by-minute use basis. It's fast, that's all I know. Run Belarc Advisor.
