    Margin Printing (2002 SP-1)

I am running Word 2002 and using an old LaserJet III+ printer. When I go to print a document with tight margins, I get an error message from Word saying "The margins of section 1 are set outside the printable page. Do you want to continue?" I tell it yes and it prints everything just fine. This is not really a Word 2002 problem, I get the same message when I print using Word 97.

It's not a big deal, I just answer yes (a lot) and things work just fine. I'm just wondering why?

Most printers cannot print right up to the edge of the paper, so if you set the margins to very small values, you'll get the error you mention. Try increasing the margins a bit (In fact, if you select File | Page Setup... and make the margins too small, Word should offer to correct them when you click OK.)

    Re: Margin Printing (2002 SP-1)

I understand that most printers cannot print to the edge of the paper. That is not the issue. When the setting I have (0.2 top and bottom and 0.5 left and right for a 4x6 card), it WILL print all the way to the margins. It is just that Word is giving me an error message saying the printer cannot handle it and if I tell it to print anyway, the printer handles it just fine. Absolutely nothing is lost or misprinted.

I assume that Word is checking against a setting provided in the printer driver. Unless there is a way to change that through the printer's settings (Start>Settings>Printers), it is something that the driver manufacturer probably has hardcoded that you have to live with. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

Check your document, I have found this to happen and there is a - (minus) margin or two for a paragraph buried in the document.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
