    Updating TOC (Word 2003)

    quickie (I hope).
When updating a Table of Contents by using F9, I get the totally useless dialog box asking me whether I want to update pages only or the entire table.
Of COURSE I want to update the entire table! Grrrrrrrrrrr.
Is there a way to set this as a default? I haven't found one yet.
    Thanks.

I don't know how to make that the default, but you could assign the UpdateTOCFull command to a custom toolbar button and/or keyboard shortcut. For example, to assign it to a custom toolbar button:
    - Select Tools | Customize...
    - Activate the Commands tab.
    - Select All Commands in the list of Categories.
    - Select UpdateTOCFull in the list of Commands.
    - Drag it to a convenient location on a toolbar.
    - Right-click the new button to modify the style, caption etc.
    - If you want to assign a keyboard shortcut, click Keyboard... in the Customize dialog.
    - Select All Commands, then UpdateTOCFull.
    - Click in the Press new shortcut key box.
    - Press the keystroke combination you want to use.
    - You can see if this keystroke is already assigned to another action.
    - Click Assign, then OK.

    OMG, Hans! <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23>
I am an inveterate fiddler in the customize toolbars and shortcut menus -- and I didn't even realize there WAS an "update TOC full" command.
    *insert sheepish grin* <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15>
    Thanks!!!
