Need to Sync 2 Computers (2000)

For several years I've used the Fusionone service to synchronize Outlook between my home computer and my work computer. As of April 10th Fusionone will no be available. I've searched but haven't found anyone else out there that still offers this synchronization service. The closest I came was AllMyPCs.com but they can only synch if the two computers have PST files. That doesn't work for me. In my situation, my home computer uses a PST but my office computer doesn't. At work we have an Exchange server sysem. I could sure use some suggestions on what I can do to replace Fusionone. Time is running out.

Searching fusionone in Google, two AdWords ads popped up for competing or related products. Here is the info, in case they have changed or disappeared:

I don't know whether it is adequate for your purposes, but do you have/can you use Outlook Web Access (OWA) on your Exchange Server? In ES2003 it is installed and accessible by default...

Thank you ever so much. I knew I could count on Woddy's Lounge. The BeInSync looks like it'll do the trick just fine. I'll give it a try. What do I have to loose?!

Web access to Outlook isn't an option on our office network. (We have Exchange 2000.)

Exchange 2000 has OWA, so I assume your IS people have elected not to implement it ... ?

Re: Need to Sync 2 Computers (2000)

Turns out BeInSync only synchronizes Outlook's Contacts folder and email if you have OUtlook 2003 or newer. But if you're using OUtlook 2000, like I am, you can only sync the Contacts. I need to be able to sync all Outlook folders.

Here's the rest of the story on remote access. Our office has a Citrix server setup so I could remote in and look at my Outlook, but that's not what I need. I need to maintain a complete copy at my home as a backup and just in case, you know, God forbid, something happens to the network or I ever leave here. (Been here 12 years so far.) Plus, I have my home Outlook setup to wirelessly synchronize to my Palm Treo cell phone throughout the day. I can only have that setup on one computer and I choose my home computer because this is a personal phone and Outlook has to stay open at all times for the wireless sync to work. I hope this make sense.

jscher2000, I'll try the other sync service you named - funambol - and report back what I learned there.

Daisy, I have an old Palm with a cradle, and I spent about 3 months with it synchronized between two computers - in effect it became the sync conduit. Can you sync the Treo to two PC's (I'm thinking about a Treo, and this may become an issue for me).

Re: Need to Sync 2 Computers (2000)

Years ago I did use Palm to sync two computers but I was buggy and I didn't care much for it. I have a Palm Treo 650. It use a cradle like the regular Palm handhelds. It use a data cable for manual synching.

What I liked about the Fusionone service was the fact I could schedule the desktop synchs every few hours and never had to do anything to synch the two desktops. And at home the wireless synch software through Verizon keeps my cell phone current. Before going to Fusionone years ago, I use to synchronize with Visto but they went out of business too. That's why I went to Fusionone. I can't believe no one else is out there doing this.

For the record, I've tried these already: Ezoutlooksync.com (only syncs PST files), Public Share Folder (also only syncs PST files), ShareO (not a true synch program), XC Connect (also not a true synch program), Add2Outlook (outrageously expensive at $550 a year and not so sure it would work anyway; designed for enterprises), and Easy2Synch for Outlook (doesn't sync over the Internet; local only).

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Don't know if you guys still care about this, but there is an excellent solution out there called EZoutlooksync at http://www.ezoutlooksync.com

It will work with outlook on 2 pc's just like a palm pilot sync... syncs both ways, flawlessly... I've been using it for almost 6 months and it has worked perfectly (be sure to buy the pro version).

another solution that WILL work but it isn't very elegant is Microsoft synctoy.
