Context Menu Repair and another (XL2003)

    Anybody please, two questions:
    1) how do I repair a (right click) context menu? I have leftovers from The Spreadsheet Assistant uninstall but do not seem to get rid of them.
    2) I see now under the Help menu an item "check for updates" (actually it now appears in all MSO 2003 applications), but if I click it nothing happens. What did I forgot to install to make this item operational?

    1) That can only be done in VBA, for example using this macro:

    Sub ResetContextMenus()
    Dim cbr As CommandBar
    For Each cbr In Application.CommandBars
    If cbr.Type = msoBarTypePopup Then
    'If MsgBox("Reset " & cbr.Name & "?", vbQuestion + vbYesNo) = vbYes Then
    cbr.Reset
    'End If
    End If
    Next cbr
    Set cbr = Nothing
    End Sub

If you want to be prompted for each context menu (there are a lot of them!), remove the two apostrophes.

    2) You could try to reset the Worksheet Menu Bar (Tools | Customize..., Toolbars tab).

Otherwise, just visit the integrated Microsoft Update site - it combines Windows Update and Office Update in one interface. It can be found at Microsoft Update.

Re: Context Menu Repair and another (XL2003)

I did Toolbars|Customize ... Reset Menu Toolbar already, no difference. The whole thing is that I cannot get Microsoft update to work so I thought this one might do the trick.
I posted the MSU update problem already some months ago. In the meantime I have un- and reinstalled IE6, SP2 and done a host of other tricks mentioned in the KB. But nothing worked. I guess I have to wait for IE7 final to get MSU to work short of un- and reinstalling WindowsXP. The strange thing is that Windows Update works correctly but Office update not.

If you cannot get Microsoft Update or Office Update to work, it is very unlikely that you can get the Help | Check for Updates menu option to work.

You mention the KB, so I assume that you have tried all suggestions in How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the Office Update Web site?

    Hans,

Indeed I did this one five months ago and thanks to your link I could do it again. Only the 9th method looked promising, there were no changes with the others compared to five months ago. But in the end I was not able to get the Office Update working.

Re: Context Menu Repair and another (XL2003)

    Hans,

As I said, probably have to wait for IE7 or until I have the courage to reinstall Windows and the whole lot (I reinstalled MSO already!)

Now back to repairing the context menu:
How can I use your code for cleaning up the context menu that appears when right clicking a sheet tab?

    Regards, Teunis

    Hans,

So sorry, of course you gave the answer already, and it beautifully fixed the problem.

    Apologies, Teun
