Include report in form possible? (2003)

Hello guys,

ok I have a weird problem. I am the following and the only way I could do it till now is via report (subsections). I guess there is some way to do this with a form too, but since this is something I want to show the user, a report ain't helpful.
I am trying to show the user a history of the main record, of what that record did in the past years. With a report it seemed easy:

In the Sorting and Grouping Box I created the field School (main record) and Keep together. Then the Year field with its own Header.
The Year Header only has the year in there and in the detail area there is the State which was assigned to the school in that Year.

So the report looks like this now:
School XY
2004
Italy
France
Greece
2005
Greenland
USA

School 123
2005
Blabla
2006
Netherlands

This is what I want to appear in the report, but due to the lack of those special group headers (in particular year) I cannot show ALL the years where the school participated... I thought of using a subform in the subform, but I dont know if that is the right way to do it....

Hope you can understand a bit what I mean. Lemme show you quickly the record source for the report:

SELECT joinSchoolsUNMember.Year, tblSchools.School, tblUNMember.UNMember, joinSchoolsParticipation.Participants
FROM ((joinSchoolsUNMember INNER JOIN tblUNMember ON joinSchoolsUNMember.UNMemberID = tblUNMember.UNMemberID) INNER JOIN tblSchools ON joinSchoolsUNMember.ID = tblSchools.ID) INNER JOIN joinSchoolsParticipation ON tblSchools.ID = joinSchoolsParticipation.ID
GROUP BY joinSchoolsUNMember.Year, tblSchools.School, tblUNMember.UNMember, joinSchoolsParticipation.Participants
ORDER BY tblSchools.School;

Sincerely
Dennis

Yeah sorry, i was in a rush to write...

I want to have exactly the information in a subform, to create kind-of "overview", like "this school was assigned to those UNMembers in this year" etc. WHen I once have the system set up I will try to include more information, saying "this school sent this guy and this girl over in year 2005" etc.

In the report I can achieve that, but just for on-screen-viewing (in the same form I have all the other info, not destroying the layout with a "show report button") I am not able to do this in a form.

Forms don't have group headers etc., but you could still have a subform that displays years and corresponding UN members for a school. It won't exactly look like a report, but it'll display the info.

If you want it to look exactly like a report, open a report.

mm yeah ok I guess I didn't make my point very clear. Delete this thread, I'll post something new when I'M back in the Netherlands with more time on my hands. Currently I'm on a conference in Prague and Ithought I could just throw in a quick post...

I'm not sure what you want, but could you perhaps create a query where you pull the distinct school and year, then create a form off of that distinct query, and then nest a report that has the students for each school/year?

That information wouldn't be editible, though.

thx

Ok here's an example database. Basically I want the repot transformed into a form. Due to the lack of subsections I am not able to do that.

The information is SUPPOSED to be not editable as it is only supposed to serve as an overview over the past years in the workflow of existing forms.

You could use a subform as in the attached demo. It doesn't look like the report, but it does show the same information. If you want something that looks like a report, use a report.

Thanks Hans, yes thats how far I got too - and no I dont want it to look exactly like a report.

I just think it's better distinguishable if you have a Year heading and then the specified attributes... A simple subform as you did it does the trick of showing the information, but just not in the
Year1
Country1
Country2
Year2
Country5
Country1

way... I know I'm making question bigger than it actually is, but the thing is that people being totally unfamiliar with computer have to work with this program...

Re: Include report in form possible? (2003)

The attached makes the subform look a bit more like a report, but it is a very artificial use of a form...

Gosh you must really hate this idea

Yes that is actually exactly what I wanted! I'll include some more info now, but its exactly the way which helps the user to plan things.

Thanks Hans!
