    Permanent headers (Word XP)

I am creating a template which starts with one page. If the typing should go to two pages I want a header to automatically appear showing the page number and other information. I have seen this done before. I call it permanent because I do not want the headers to disappear if page breaks are accidentally deleted. The header would appear on the second, third, etc pages but not the first. Is there VB code or macro I can use to create this? Thanks.

If you want a different header on page 2 and later, use the 'Different first page' in Headers and Footers on the layout tab of File, Page Setup.
You could have a blank first page header.

In addition to Peter's reply: after setting Different first page, you may need to temporarily insert a page break, and set the header/footer for the second page (and following), then delete the page break again. The header/footer will still be present in the document, to be displayed when the user enters more than one page of text.
