    WordPad

I have a user who runs Windows XP and complains that WordPad is missing on his machine. Any way you know of to get it back? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Can you check whether it's just the menu option (Start | All Program | Accessories | WordPad) that is missing, or the program itself (C:Program FilesWindows NTAccessoriesWordpad.exe)?

    Hi Hans,

Thanks for your quick response. The user states " I clicked Start | Programs | Accessories in order to get to MS WordPad, but found that it was no longer there. " "When I click on my document I get a message stating that 'This file does not have a program associated with it.''

You could try 'Restore Wordpad.exe' - #308 on the right hand site on Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP.

    Re: WordPad

Tell your user to right click on the file they want to open with Wordpad and select Open With from the drop down menu and select Choose Program and find Wordpad in the list there or click on the browse button and select Wordpad from the list there. Check the box Always use selected program to open this type of file. Now when they double click on any file of that type, it will open Wordpad as the associated program. Edited by Doc to add... BTW - The path to Wordpad is C:Program FilesWindows NTAccessorieswordpad.exe. Your user could just create a new shortcut or navigate there and right click and pin it to the start menu or drag a shortcut back where it belongs from there.
