Date format with AutoComplete (Word 97)

Can anyone please tell me where the format of the date used by AutoComplete is modified? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

I'm assuming that you are having a problem with this behavior. This gets awfully complicated! I'll try to give you some ideas.

First, check the format of your dates for Windows. These formats are also affected by the language settings in Windows and in Word.

Otherwise, when you get a result you weren't expecting or don't want, you can press Undo (Ctrl-Z). Hope this is of some assistance.

Re: Date format with AutoComplete (Word 97)

Thanks for the prompt response Chas ... yes, I am having problems with the date in AutoComplete. I expected that Word (97 SR-2) would use the Short Date format in Windows (98 SE), but it doesn't.

    Short Date set to dd/mm/yyyy
    Language English (Australian) everywhere

I even set the Insert/Date format in Word to what I would like (dd MMM yyyy) ... but the AutoComplete date format remains unchanged: dd mm. yy

It would appear that this is "hard coded" in Word and you can't change it.

    Thanks again.

    You might want to take a look at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=wrd&Number=13263&page=& view=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post13263> a Canadian can't get a date</A>, a thread exploring this in depth.

What happens if you type "dd/?"

You may want to put an AutoText entry into your normal.dot that has a CREATEDATE field in your choice of format. You can attach it to a keyboard shortcut as well.

See <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm>Inserting a Date - and Making it Stick!</A> (addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm) for information on how to handle date fields.

If you want a menu that gives you different kinds of date fields that can be inserted into documents, download the legal toolbars from <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.addbalance.com/word/download/index.htm>my Word download page</A> (addbalance.com/word/download/index.htm). This is a self-documenting global template.
