Version Info on Posts

Eileen, how about adding a Version/SR field next to subject on the new message screen? Too many people never seem to notice the "please specify" message at the top of the screen. If the box were there to fill in, it might produce better results.

    I'd need multiple profiles then.

I guess I was thinking more as a default, mainly because I'm so lazy

Initally, I was inclined to agree with your request; however, after remembering that I've seen just the opposite problem (posts with the make/model, memory and hard drive capacities, modem and video card make/model, etc. ad. nauseum) I think that the majority of the registered users will quickly get the idea if they see responses indicating that the Version and Service Level is needed to evaluate their query.

    Re: Version Info on Posts

I agree that it shouldn't be overdone. However, we're dealing primarily with Office applications here, and since both 97 and 2000 are running around loose out there, with an occasional 95 or Office 6.0 thrown in, we are forced to ask for that information before we can provide an intelligent answer. Or else we have to qualify the answer for a version or throw in the various answers for the different versions. Since 95 was the first version to use VBA in most of its applications, and since 2000 uses ADO as its default object model and VBA in ALL the applications, the version is entirely necessary information that is usually left out.

If people want to get a speedy answer to their problem they should have enough sense to give the neccessary information. If they don't, then they'll have to suffer the delay!

Does that mean you agree with my statement?

BTW, if this signature is screwy, it's because I'm still struggling with markup and the fact that a (/big) statement is not recognized (brackets replaced).

Yes, putting in an extra field is not top priority at present.

Don't worry about your Sig. It isn't anything you've done - it's <font size = +2>me</font size=big>. I've been messing with the scripts and I seem to have scr*wed something.
