Right Indent (Word 2000)

I am converting text to table in an existing word file. When the conversion takes place I get more columns than asked for (blank) and the right indent on some of the cells is set to the left and needs to be manually reset to the right so the text looks right. Is there anyway thru code to set the right indent rather than go cell by cell to fix this?

Do lines in your text end with (normally invisible) tab characters? If so, you can remove them as follows:
- Select the text you want to convert to a table.
- Select Edit | Replace... or press Ctrl+H.
- Type
^w^p
in the Find What box.
- Type
^p
in the Replace With box.
- Click Replace All.

It's hard to say what causes the right indent without seeing the text.

Dan, we generally suggest posting a sample document as an attachment to one of your posts here, rather than relying on email. Additional eyes, especially in closer time zones, can speed the process of resolution.

Re: Right Indent (Word 2000)

The problem is that the number of columns varies depending on the data in a particular line. Or, more to the point, the number of tabs changes as often as every other line in some parts of the document. This makes it impossible for Word to divvy up the text into table cells the way you intended.

Is there any way to get better data output from wherever this is stored, such as a CSV file?

You can get a much better result if you replace every occurence of two consecutive tabs with a single tab.

Edit > Select All
Edit > Replace
Find What: ^t^t
Replace With: ^t
Replace All
