Merging to WordArt (WordXP)

Is there a way to merge data into WordArt formatted layouts?
I am trying to print tent cards, and need to have the name on both sides of the tent card. That means the top cell of two cells needs to be printed upside down. The only way I can figure out to do that is to use WordArt and flip it. But I can't make the mail merge function work insert fields into the WordArt box. Is there a better way to skin this cat?

Hi Jim,

You can use text boxes to accomplish this task:

- Use a Landscape page
- Create a text box and change the Text Direction to 270

Hmmm. I am doing something wrong. In both W97 and WXP, /Format/Text Direction gives me the 90 or 270 option, but when I try to copy to another textbox (or to another table cell) I am not able to do anything in W97 except reverse it to left-facing or right-facing (90 or 270). Can't make it lie down and play upside down! What am I doing wrong?

It just hit me! I'm not thinking outside the box! You said landscape, but I didn't catch the import of that: In landscape, 90 is upside down to 270! Thanks very much.

Yes, lateral thinking "outside of the box" is required in this exercise!

I recall trying to convey this to another individual and finally suggested they print a test page and only then did it become clear! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
