    Start the Program (AccessXP)

    Hello

I'm not sure if this is an access question or a windows question. (It could be neither).

I hae an AccessXP database with an exe. When I double click on a desktop shortcut to an exe, it prompts me to locate the access database. Once the access database is selected, then the app starts with a logon screen.

Previously when I clicked on a desktop shortcut, it would launch straight into the logon screen.

The changes from the working to now not working correctly are :
we have upgraded to Windows XP
and the network directory where the database was orginally located no longer exists. And a new directory location has since been created where the database resides.

Is there an easy way when double clicking on the exe, or the shortcut it points to the correct db and launches the app straight away?

    many thanks
    diana

What do you mean by "I hae an AccessXP database with an exe"?

What does your shortcut target look like?

    Re: Start the Program (AccessXP)

My shortcut target points to the exe path ie "C:Program FilesTransActionTrAction.exe"

I've attached a screen capture of the files.
The files actually resided in C:Program Files. The actual database resides on the network as in the screen capture.

when I double click on the exe, it looks for the access db. when you select the access db then the access logon screen appears.
It use to start the access logon screen straight away without trying to find the access db.

    perhaps this cant be done?

    what does traction.exe do?

why not set up a shortcut that opens the traction.mdb?

The folder in your screenshot contains a file named TrAction.exe. Is that a copy of the application, or just a shortcut?
What is in the TrAction.ini file (it is - or ought to be - a text file that can be viewed with Notepad)?

    Re: Start the Program (AccessXP)

    Hello there

    Ive worked it out.

The access database should be contained within the folder as the other files, and not seperate on the network.
When we migrated the sys admins moved the database from the folder onto the network.

    many thanks
