    Name Manager Update (97, 2000,xp,2003)

    Hi all,

I have been investing quite some time in the Name Manager in the last two weeks.

Two very interesting new features have been added:

    1. Rename a name

You can now change the name of a name using the Name Manager. It will update all formulas and objects that are using this name with the new name.

    2. Show where a name is in use.

Select a name and click the "Is Used" button (see manual) to get an overview of where a name is in use in your workbook (see screenshot below).

    Hi Jan Karel.

I would just like to say how grateful I am for your Name Manager. I use it every day without fail, in fact I would struggle to manage without it.

I would like ot make a polite comment, when I open Name Manager unless I resize it , I can't see the toolbar that contains the is used button, Is this some thing to do with my setup.

    Many Thanks

    Hi Jan Karel

Please find attached screenshot as requested, this is at the just opened state, if I expand it the toolbars shows but it is over to the left and is not moveable. If you wish to see this screenshot,

I will have to make a seperate reply due to size.

    Many Thanks

An update has been posted just now.

You can now also see of a name is in use in your VBA code and more so: if you rename a name, VBA will be processed too.

    Hi Jan Karel

Please see attached I was referring to the toolbar at the bottom which dissappears on re-sizing.

    Hi Jan Karel

I installed the latest version but still get what appears to be ghost toolbar, of the tool bar at the top.

Is this unique to me? please see my last post with the screenshot of the ghost toolbar.

    AAAH, now I see.

Clearly a silly bug. WIll be fixed in the next build.
Proves my screen is smaller than yours :-)

Re: Name Manager Update (97, 2000,xp,2003)

I just tried your new beta name manager and have a question on the highlight buttons (I have Office 2003 on WinXP)

The 'highlight' and 'clear highlights' buttons prompt me with the same question -- "remove previous highlights." What does this mean? Why would it ask this for both buttons? If I pushed 'clear highlights' I'd prefer it didn't ask me "are you sure" which is what it sounds like. Also, in either case, saying Yes to this question still leaves a dashed line around the cell that contains the name. I'd prefer no prompt at all but instead just highlight or not as the button shows. I'd expect Highlight to colorize the selected name(s) cells, and Clear Highlight to remove highlights from the same selected name(s). What this your intent for how it should work?

I really like the rename feature as it's been a manual process (with some VBA) for me in the past and this makes this tool even more useful than it was!

Re: Name Manager Update (97, 2000,xp,2003)

I agree on the confusing message regarding the highlighting.
When you hit the highlight button, I first call the remove highlights function, which has the confirmation message in there. I do the removal because otherwise you end up with two boxes on each named area (you cannot actually see there are two, because they are on top of each other).

As to the dashes, I think this is a screenupating bug somehow. I see this sometimes too. Switching sheets or sometimes even page-down/page-up removes them for me. Or are there actual objects left behind on the sheet?
