    Software Want

Are there any decent software programs for writing business checks - to later be filled in by hand or by computer?
    Thanks much for your thoughts.

Do you mean physically producing the cheque without the PAYEE, AMOUNT, DATE, etc. filled in, or some of the fields filled in, and others blank?

Or possibly produce the completed document, but not have it hit a General Ledger (or any other accounting) package?

Just produce the check without the Payee etc filled in or some filled in and others blank depending on the circumstances.

    Thanks.

Maybe Chris understands, but I'm a little confused. Do you have pre-printed (designed) check forms already that you want to print on, OR are you looking for software to DESIGN a check, like put the company name, logo, background colors, etc.?

If you already have pre-printed forms and DON'T want an "accounting package" per se, it looks like you could do what you want with Word, huh?

Physically produce the business check - take a blank check paper (which I already own) and print the bank numbers, the space for the payee, the space for the amount, the date, etc.

    Thanks.

I've never done what you want, but you may be distressed when you see the price of some software to do the job! I was Googling around and found lots of places like this one: Print you own Checks, depending on how you word the Google query, i.e. "make checks" as opposed to "check design." Hang in here to see if any Loungers have any experience in this area.

Have you checked with your bank about this? They may have recommendations of packages to do this. This would also ensure that you're following industry standards for placement of information on the documents.

But how are you going to get the MICR info onto your checks? (Sprinkle iron oxide on some slow-drying ink?) Doesn't your bank require them?

A friend going through a low-cash-flow period said it took extra time for his checks to clear after he swiped the MICR characters with a magnet, since the bank had to put those checks aside when they failed to machine-read, and hand-enter them...
