cannot delete email from outlook outbox (2003)

I have sent some pics to someone and only after clicking send realised that the mail would be 29MB. But when I try to delete the email from my OUTBOX I get prompted that this is not allowed because outlook has already begun sending the email. How can I get rid of it? Already tried deleting, restarting outlook etc...

What I would do (with Outlook 2002) in the same situation, would be to temporarily change the details of my outgoing mail server, wait for the delivery to fail, delete the message, and then reset the details.

A cruder alternative to Leif's suggestion is to physically disconnect from the Net, then wait for the error messages, etc. as he describes.
