Width of name box (Excel 2000)

Does anyone know how to increase the width of the "name box" in the formula bar in Excel. Some of my defined names are too long to fit in the box, and the beginning part of the names are similar, such as "Amt_Nle_samle_1", "Amt_Nle_sample_2", etc. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

SOL, unfortunately. The width is fixed in Excel. I found this frustrating too and asked that same question quite a while ago (read the answer in a book) . One occasionally handy tool is to do Insert/Names/Paste to display a list of all your names to the active cell. At least that way you have a list of what's available so far. Of course the other option is to use shorter names. If the names start with the same 'n' characters maybe there's no benefit to having them there (dunno your reason for these names so just guessing). You could make the last part of the name the same instead of the first part so it's visible in that name field.

There is an addin to do this at:

I haven't used it myself, but it seemed to attract favourable comment in the microsoft.public.excel.misc newsgroup when the link was posted there last December.
