    Error message (WIN XP/Access 97)

Can anyone tell me why I would recieve this message when clicking on the ADD RECORD button:
The only code behind the button is:
    DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
    DoCmd.GoToControl "[chkwrittenrequest]"

There are records in the database.

Perhaps you were already at a new record when you clicked the button?

Re: Error message (WIN XP/Access 97)

    That's what I cannot understand.

After filling in the form, I want to go to a new record (which has always worked until yesterday).
I click the Add Record button and I get the message.

If I have 10 users joined to the workgroup for this database, and someone outside of the workgroup opens it,
would this have anything to do with this issue? It is the only thing 'different' than normal.

    Thank you for helping !

If the extra user doesn't have full permissions on the folder containing the database, (s)he might lock the database by opening it. Does the problem disappear if the extra user doesn't have the database open?

Yes it does - The person has READ only rights to the drive.

Should adding READ/Write security to the drive fix this?

    Thank you Hans.

Access requires that all users have modify permissions (read/write/create/delete) in the folder that contains the database. If you want to prevent some users from modifying data in the database, you must apply user-level security. (See WendellB's tutorial The Secrets of Security.)
