    Office apps won't stay open

OK, I get a new Dell PC with Windows Me. I install Office 2000 Premium and think I'm doing great. I decide to use Excel a few hours later. I click the Excel shortcut, Excel opens, it stays open for about 5 seconds, then Excel closes - no error message, no warning, no nothing. Closes. Not only Excel, but Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and FrontPage.

Item of note - This PC came with MS Works. And I'm not sure why, but it also came with Word 2000. After installing O2K, Word is the only Office app that works (stays open). My guess is that Word wasn't really re-installed - it probably just kept the pre-installed version as is.

So I figure I'll delete Works and see what happens. Same result.

What on Earth is going on here? Anybody have any clues?

The key to my dilemma was indeed found within one of the KB articles.

Now you know that I went to the KB in search of an answer before coming to the Lounge. It just goes to show that you need to phrase your query just right.

    Thanks again.

Re: Office apps won't stay open

i think i used "office closes immediately" - but i also have a technet subscription and searched the cd. i have occassionally used the web site instead of digging out the cd and discovered that the site is finicky at times (understatement).

one weekend 3 different people searched the web and each got different results using the same keywords on the website.
