delete or undo TOC (word 2000)

i couldn't find this in search: our secretary has an old doc from who knows where or whom which has a wonderful TOC which even updates perfectly. for whatever reason, she doesn't want it at all. how/where do we delete the TOC? (just highlight and delete?)

is there a way to keep the text of the TOC, but delete the page numbers, links, shading etc? so she can then manually delete certain entries, manually enter their page #s, manually add new entries w/page #s?

If you select the TOC and press Ctrl-6 it will stop being a field and become ordinary text. It will also lose the hyperlink property.

You can modify the options and styles to change the TOC. You can turn off the viewing of fields as shaded.

The TOC (as a field) can be edited but when it updates the manual editing will be lost.

For more on the TOC, you may want to see . (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.kenyonck.addr.com/usersguide/complex_legal_documents.htm>backup page).
