    Paragraph numbering format problem (2003)

    Hi all,
I have a problem where my Level 2 sub-paragraph numbering is not working correctly. The problem is that when I change a paragraph number say from 2.1 to say 2.3, it changes every number in that Level 2 sub-partagraph to 2.3 as well.
I have tried to solve the problem through Format - Bullets and Numbering - Outline Numbering, but the problem remains.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Can you post a "sanitized" version of the problematic part of the document?

Well, first, the directly applied formatting is overriding anything set in the style definitions. So you might want to use Ctrl+Q to revert the paragraph formatting of Heading2 back to the style.

When I look at the Customize... dialog for either the directly formatted heading or the style, the second level shows a numbering style of "None" which doesn't make any sense to me. Hopefully someone who uses this feature more often will be able to fix that. Or maybe you need to rebuild the list format from scratch using a different outline style. ???

The numbering scheme is seriously messed up.
    1) Select each heading paragraph and press Ctrl+Q to reset paragraph formatting.
    2) Click in the heading 1 paragraph.
Select Format | Numbering and Bullets...
Click on the numbering style in the second row, second column

    1 Heading 1
    1.1 Heading 2
    1.1.1 Heading 3

You may have to reset this numbering style to see it like that.
    Click OK.
