    Missing applications (XP Home SP2)

I recently performed some maintenance on my system to restore it to its youthful speed. It's working beautifully, but now I can't launch the character map, Paint, and the calculator. I usually launched charmap from the Run command

First, check if those apps are still available in Start | All Programs | Accessories (for Paint and Calculator) and its submenu System Tools (for Character Map). If so, do they work?

If not, select Start | Control Panel.
Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel.
    Click on Add/Remove Windows Components.
Make sure that Accessories and Utilities is ticked.
    Click Details...
    Click Accessories...
    Click Details...
Make sure that Paint, Calculator and Character Map are ticked.
    Click OK (twice), then Next.
Depending on the way your PC is configured, you may have to insert your Windows XP CD.
