    Woody's Lounge (IE 6.0 SP2)

On my main computer I seem to be locked out of Woody's Lounge. I can get to any other site that I try but when I try to get to Woody's I get an IE error screen. I thought the Lounge was down until I tried another computer. What setting could have changed that no longer allows me to get to Woody's?

    Thanks.

First, try deleting the wopr.com cookie in your Temporary Internet Files folder on the problem PC.
Also check in the Privacy tab of Tools | Internet Options that wopr.com is not in the list of blocked sites.

Do you have entries for wopr.com and/or www.wopr.com in your Hosts file on the problem PC (a text file in C:WindowsSystem32DriversEtc)?

    Re: Woody's Lounge (IE 6.0 SP2)

I have deleted all cookies. I have no blocked sites listed. I don't see any text file in that directory. When I try opening Woody's on the problem PC instead of saying it is finding WOPR.COM it is looking for 66.93.85.138. I have tried a new shortcut. Even searched for Woody's and then clicked on the link that Google found all with the same results.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks.

66.93.85.138 is not the IP address for the Lounge any more. I strongly suspect that there *is* an entry for the Lounge pointing to this address in your Hosts file.
Hosts is a file without extension (not Hosts.txt or something like that).
Open the file in NotePad and search for wopr.com. If found, either delete all lines referring to wopr.com, or change them to read as follows:

    71.250.240.251 wopr.com
    71.250.240.251 www.wopr.com

If there are no entries for wopr.com, add the above two lines.

Then save the file. You should now be able to visit the Lounge again.

    hans,

That did it. I wonder why only one of my machines was affected. It is working now so thank you very much.

    Hi Hans,
I'm having the same problem. My Hosts file has the correct 2 lines and I deleted the WOPR cookie, with no luck. BTW, my cookies are in Doc&SettingsHowardCookies, not in Temp Internet Files. (WinXP Pro SP2.)
Any other suggestions? This started when WOPR went down last Spring. Works fine on my other PC.

    Hello Howard,

The IP Address of The Lounge has changed since this was last addressed. Your hosts file should now include the IP Address 68.178.254.189 for wopr.com and www.wopr.com

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Woody's Lounge (IE 6.0 SP2)

The Lounge's IP changed in April of 2006, then again in September of 2007 when we moved to a new server after the old one crashed in August. I'd start by removing the lines for wopr.com and www.wopr.com from your Hosts file, or commenting them out by inserting # in front of them. Your browser should be able to find the Lounge without those entries.
If not, add the lines again, but use our new IP address 68.178.254.189:

    68.178.254.189 wopr.com
    68.178.254.189 www.wopr.com

Oh, I forgot to mention that you must have cookies in Temporary Internet Files as well, perhaps they're just hidden. They are exactly the same cookies as those in your Cookies folder.

    Thanks Hans,
I commented out the old address in the Hosts file and connected to WOPR immediately. Let's hope the server stays put for a while.
    Howard
