Password not recognized after Hibernate (2002/SP2)

I posted this a while ago and didn't get any replies. It's still a problem, so here goes again:
I'm having an intermittent but frequent problem when using Hibernation -- Windows refuses to recognize my password. I'm 100% positive I'm entering the correct password, and that Caps Lock and Num Lock are off. Standby works fine. My workarounds have been to reboot, or to log in as a different user, then log out and log into my profile. I can't find anything about this in the archives. This article on MS.com might be related: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903265/en-us but it doesn't mention password issues. Any clues?

I'd recommend not using hibernation. It's always been somewhat problematic, to the point (IMHO) that the advantages are not worth the problems. I never use it.

Is your computer on domain network?

On the dialog that prompt you to type the password after hibernation, make sure that your computer is selected, NOT a domain.
(If Novell Client is installed, open Advanced settings by clicking Advanced button or pressing Alt-A).

This is a standalone laptop, and not part of a domain (and never has been).

What happens if you switch users to an alternate profile (don't log out, just switch users) and then allow the machine to go into hibernate ?? Will it come back up and then allow you to switch back to your profile without the problem ??

I was able to log in as another user, Hibernate, and then log in as myself after Hibernation. Since the problem is intermittent, I'll need to try this a bunch more to make sure it works consistently.

The hibernation function, because of the nature of it's function, is difficult and time consuming to troubleshoot. Keep us posted with your progress.
