Looking for a Money Management program

A friend of mine works for an organization that provides free financial help/advice to the local community. What he would like is a Excel-based Money Management program which he could download and then burn to disc to give to those who are seeking help. They have already arranged to even provide free computer training to teach people how to use such programs. I'm assuming, the program only needs to deal with the "basics" of money management rather than one that deals with stock portfolios, etc.

Any suggestions that I could pass on to him would be appreciated.

Jeff, while looking for something else today, I happened across this page and I wonder if it comes anywhere close to what you're looking for: Family Finances: MS Excel & Works Spreadsheet Shareware. I don't know why the URL title says shareware and the page says it free...

If you don't have any responses, we could always move this thread to the Excel forum to see if someone there knows of anything you might be interested in.

"Money management" is pretty broad - without knowing specific requirements it's hard to know where to begin. Excel Help: Free Excel Templates - Finance and Accounting Templates and Personal Finance might be a good start though.

Re: Looking for a Money Management program

    Alan,

How about if I simply provide the person's exact request which might help narrow things down.

Where I work we deal with people who have very little training and experience with financial management, balancing
a checkbook, and budgeting. Some of them are very poor and
chronically in need--even homeless--and some are middle class and in debt up to their ears. Others might even be considered well-off but have no idea where their money is coming from (or how much) or where it's going (or how much).

I know there are a thousand home budgeting programs out there (Dave Ramsey, Crown Ministries, etc.) and many more I am unaware of. But I'm sure somebody has developed an Excel-based freebie that I could legally download and then give away to people. We have a computer classroom where volunteer instructors teach basic computer literacy for free to anyone interested. We have an Excel class and we could integrate personal financial management into the curriculum if it were a simple "canned" spreadsheet that didn't require a lot of advanced Excel knowledge to use.
