Automatic Update of Fields in a table (Word 2000)

I have a colleague who has constructed a table where he uses a function (sum) in the bottom row. How can he update the cells in the bottom row automatic when he changes one of the numbers in another row/cell? He would like NOT to use the F9 for update, or to have to wait for update until he writes the document out.

If you need automatically updating formulas, Excel would be a much better application than Word.

In Word, you could use text form fields with the Calculate On Exit property turned on in the cells where data can be entered. This requires the table to be in a protected section of the document, which could have undesired side effects, but the formulas in the bottom row will be updated automatically. I have attached a very simple example.

I know Excel would be better, but my colleague wanted to use Word. His coice.
Anyway, thank you for prompt response. I think this will solve his problem.
