No reply notification

Yesterday and today I did not get any emails notifying me of replies to my posts. This is the first time this has happened. Is this another SMTP problem or is something else going on? It's an inconvenience as I can't remember all the posts I make or which forums they were in.

Re: No reply notification

A couple of things, while you're waiting for an Admin to speak up. Someone mentioned on this topic recently that if a few messages bounce, for whatever reason, it is possible that The Lounge software might turn OFF notifications in your profile. I don't use email notices, so I'm not familiar with the process, but it would be worth a check in your profile to make sure it's still turned ON.

The other thing, said with all respect, you might consider ALSO turning on Watched Threads, so you'll always see a summary of threads in which you are participating.

I second Al's suggestion of using the "Watched Threads" feature. It took me quite awhile to realize how handy that choice was but now it is one of the first things I do - check to see if there has been any activity in the threads that I took part in! Of course, after that, I roam around on the main page checking to see what else might be happening! Always something of interest going on!

Re: No reply notification

Since the lounge has had some recent problems with it's SMTP server, it certainly could be a continuation of that problem. We will have to wait for the Lounge Admins to chime in on that front. In the mean time, there is one other thing that could be causing your problem. A number of users have recently had similar problems, and it turned out that their ISP was blocking the email notifications because it thought that they were SPAM.

My ISP doesn't filter spam. I can't believe that anyone would want their ISP to decide which emails they should and should not receive.

My ISP does a really good job of filtering SPAM.

Every few days I have a brief look at the dozens of messages that they have put into the junk mail folder, and I've never wanted any of them yet.

Andrew,

Are you SURE they don't filter Spam?
Mine did it silently without notification. Big brother style.

Re: No reply notification

I have the daily digest of the forums I'm interested in emailed to me. That's how I found out that there had been a reply to one of my posts. But how do I get notified of any activity on my watched thread list? Do I have to go to the Controls section and check them out? I turned this on after my earlier post, but I've not received any notifications.

Re: No reply notification

I am certain. I think there may be an option that I would have to turn on but my junk mailbox is empty. I use Qurb for my own spam filter and it is 100% accurate; it uses a white list. I'd have to log in to my email account at my ISP manually to check for spam. It's much easier to let Outlook download everything and let Qurb catch the spam. It puts it in a spam folder and deletes it a few days later, after I've had a chance to review it.

Re: No reply notification

Your ISP bounced the notifications, identified as spam. I've contacted them, they say it may take up to two hours for this to be rectified, in any case, you should be back to normal shortly.

Re: No reply notification

Do your messages come to your Bulk mail folder? Mine don't, and that's the only folder that shows whether you have the spam filter turned on. I'm not at all sure it applies to the regular inbox because I've had things vanish even when addressed specifically to me and sent by a friend.

Re: No reply notification

If I have my ISP's spam filter turned on, which I don't, everything they consider spam goes to the bulk email folder. Look again at the screenshot in my previous post, which I think makes this clear. However I did receive an email notification of your post, which seems to indicate that the problem has been fixed. I'd like to know what happened.

Re: No reply notification

As I said previously Andrew, your emails got bounced, I've contacted their mail system and made sure that this rejecting of emails is stopped which it obviously has. There is more than one way to filter spam; this one was outside your reach as it was a server-wide blocking mechanism. As you've got notification of Charlotte's post we can assume that when they say "within a couple of hours", they mean it, which is quite a nice exception for a change
Cheers, Claude.

Re: No reply notification

My ISP (Rogers) also uses Yahoo's services for email. I've not had a problem previously with missing messages, but I constantly have non-SPAM messages flagged as BULK (I allow the filtering by Yahoo, but I make the final delete).

Odds are, some wingnut (or bunch of said wingnuts) has decided that they no longer wish to receive notifications to this forum, or another web service with VERY SIMILAR email messages, and it's caused the filters to kick in.

I make sure when I find non-SPAM marked as SPAM, I highlight and press the "NOT SPAM" button to help retrain the filter.
