Comodo Firewall

This Comodo Personal Firewall 2.0 review by PC Magazine has good things to say about this product. I'll probably give it a try at home in the near future. The company web site, Comodo Free products, has an rather impressive list of security related products.

Re: Comodo Firewall

Hi Joe,

I replaced ZA with this new firewall and it lasted about an hour on my system before I deleted it.
I couldn't stand the repeated CONSTANT popups despite checking the "remember" box.
It was asking if every app asking for access should be a Server. ( no they shouldn't )
Didn't like the GUI.
That's for starters.

I think Comodo FW just isn't quite ready for "prime time" yet. IMHO

Reinstalled ZA.

It would be cool if new firewalls could import the rules saved by the old firewall. But until then, this training phase will always be a PITA.

FWIW, according to the PCmag review you can have the firewall scan your system for known apps and authorize them. That should cut down on the popups.

Jefferson,
Cool it would be but this was more than retraining, it was annoyance to the nth degree.

Joe,
Yeah, I did scan for apps but it really got to be bad when even Internet Explorer was repeatedly questioned.
Needs some work. I'll wait.

> Internet Explorer was repeatedly questioned

This could happen the first time you use each ActiveX control, if the firewall is tracking individual application components. So IE+PDF, IE+Flash, IE+WMP... yes, it's definitely an undertaking to use a component control firewall. And every month after the application is patched, you get to do it again.
