Adobe Reader 7.0.8

Adobe Reader 7.0.8 has just been released. The full download for Windows is 20.3Mb, but a smaller update for existing users should also be available via the built-in check for update system (can not test to see if they are available yet since I do not have Adobe Reader installed)

The smaller upgrade/patches will also be available from:
Adobe Reader : For Windows
Adobe Reader : For Macintosh

At time of posting the updates were not yet available from the Adobe download site but should be very soon.

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0.8

Tony,

I just ran the "Check for updates" within Acrobat Reader and got "No new updates at this time" message. Perhaps they haven't got the update file uploaded yet?

It seem quite common that, except for antivirus signatures, the built-in update generally is delayed a few days after an update becomes available. Whether this is to manage the heavy load on the servers, or to let the early adopters shake out any unnoticed bugs, well, I'm sure there is a reason for it.

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0.8

Hmmm, I just ran the "Check for updates" utility and there was no update for 7.08. However, there were 2 other updates which I passed on:

- Adobe Reader 7.05 Language Support
- Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0

I'm in no rush to update Acrobat Reader, so I'll simply wait a couple of days and see if anything changes. My current version is 7.07.

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0.8

Hilarious! Me too, Jeff. I have 7.0.7 and "no updates" is what I got too. Funny thing is, I've always treated Adobe Reader like toothache medicine - something you've gotta have but couldn't care less about. I won't tell ya how long I stayed with Version 5 and probably would have continued except that me new Dell came with Version 6. Ho Hum...

Edited: I now realize that sounded like and I didn't mean it to. It's just that Adobe's Reader is one of those things that I wouldn't even look twice at if it weren't so necessary, in so many places. I meant no offense, Tony, for you keeping us apprised of the update. Apologies...

I still use Version 6.0 - any reason why I should update to the newer versions? I only use it for when I have to print the Medicare Summary Notices and the Anthem EOBs.

I found version 6 painfully slow to load. Version 7 is quite a bit faster.

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0.8

Hans is right, Lonnie. I hadn't paid any attention so I rebooted my machine just to be sure I started from "clean memory." The Version 7 Reader started almost instantaneously with no splash page, which is MUCH better than all previous versions. I did also download the 7.0.8 version directly and installed it.

If you care to NOT have the Adobe Download manager installed as part of this process download the full product using an ftp client. Connect to ftp.adobe.com and then navigate to /pub/adobe/reader/win/7x/7.0.8/enu/AdbeRdr708_DLM_en_US.exe

Joe,

Although your great tip is a little late in coming for me (I already downloaded the full package), is that "Download Manager" still resident on the HDD after Acrobat Reader is installed? If so, I'd like to remove it...... where is it?

Re: Adobe Reader 7.0.8

My Acrobat 7.0.7 finally told me about 7.0.8 yesterday.

Howver, having applied the updates the various components of my Arcobat v7 Professional installation report as:
Acobat v7.0.8
Reader v7.0.8
BUT
Distiller v7.0.7

Any one else got this 'shortfall' effect?

stuck
