No Header and Footer option (2000)

I have saved an e-mail received in Outlook 2000 as a Word document wanting to edit it. But the "Header and Footer" option doesn't seem to be available. Is there any way to get that back?

    Thanks,
    Eric

In what sense are header and footer not available? Are they invisible, or is the View | Header and Footer menu item disabled, or ...?

It's disappeared completely from the "View" menu.

In the first place, have you turned off "Menus show recently used commands first" in the Options tab of Tools | Customize...?
If you have, and the menu item is still AWOL, you should be able to restore it in either of the following ways:

If you haven't customized your menus, activate the Toolbars tab of Tools | Customize...
Click on Menu Bar, then click the Reset... button.
Confirm, and finally close the Customize dialog.

If you have customizations you don't want to lose, activate the Commands tab of Tools | Customize...
Select View in the list of Categories.
Select Header and Footer in the list of Commands.
Drag it to View on the menu bar and wait until the menu drops down.
Drag it to the location where you want it (default is above Footnotes), then drop it.
    Finally, close the Customize dialog.

Re: No Header and Footer option (2000)

    Tried both with no success.

When I tried to drag and drop "Header and Footer" to the "View" menu it showed "Header and Footer" already there. But when I closed the "Customize" dialog box, it disappeared.

Other documents are fine. It's just when an email saved as a Word document is opened.

Could you attach a copy of such a document? Remove or alter e-mail addresses and other sensitive material from the copy

Behaves normally for me (in Word 2002). Try changing the template from the following --

    C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice1033email.dot

-- to Normal.dot and see whether that helps.

Re: No Header and Footer option (2000)

I think it's because the document template that Word saves it with is email.dot, and that doesn't do headers and footers. If you attach another template to the document, the command appears. Try Tools - Templates and Add-ins- Attach... and select say normal.dot. You may find you can then put a header or a footer.

Edited to add: sorry - Jefferson's post saying much the same appeared between my clicking reply and clicking send!

Re: No Header and Footer option (2000)

When you saved the e-mail as a Word document, it was based on the email.dot template. This template removes the Header and Footer item. Try the following:
    - Select Tools | Templates and Add-Ins...
    - Enter Normal in the Document Template box.
    - Click OK.
View | Header and Footer should be available now. (I didn't cotton on to this earlier because I don't use Word as mail editor)

Added I see you already got it, sorry.
