Broken Customize Notifications (XP Home SP2)

New computer. Yesterday I was able to customize the icons in the notifications area. I've locked and unlocked the Taskbar a few times, but right now it's unlocked.

I can get to the Customize Notifications window, and the text boxes with down arrows appear as they should when I select a current item. But clicking the dropdown arrow doesn't do anything. I've restarted a few times, but the thing is still broken. Any ideas?

Try turning off and then back on the "Hide Icons" check box.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Not a solution, but perhaps a workaround: can you switch between the options using the keyboard? Pressing H should select 'Hide when inactive', and pressing A should toggle between 'Always hide' and 'Always show'.

You might want to pay a visit to Kelly's Korner. She has a number of entries on her "Tweaks" page if you search (Ctrl-F) for "notification" not the least of which is an entry on Line #294. (Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP)

She also has a Taskbar repair program that covers problems with the Notifications area. (Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!)
