    Counting question (2003)

I've attached a small sample of a dataset that I have. I need to be able to accomplish two things: count unique last names by area and then count how many times a name occurs more than once by area. I've gone back and forth between a pivot table and advanced filtering but I'm getting bogged down. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

I have this solved. Not a very pretty solution but it worked nonetheless. It involved creating a pivot table and adding a column beside the table that counted individual names...then subtracting the difference to see how many unique versus multiple items there were.
