Numbering Down Table Columns (Word XP)

How do I make Word number DOWN the table columns instead of across rows? I have three columns and I want the numbers to go down and ten continue at the top of the next row going down each row.

Thank you. The links are wonderful, but I found out that I do the numbers manually and avoid all the trouble.

I'l thrilled to get the links that you sent, however.

Hans... Hello!!
Unfortunately I can't see the link you provided here at work. I'll look when I get home... but for the here and now I was wondering if there was a solution to Reva's issue.
I was just asked the same question. The only thing I can think of is to put the document into columns. There are far too many to number by hand... though if we need to I'll have to hand it off to one of our poor interns!
Thank you!
love...

Re: Numbering Down Table Columns (Word XP)

This is the text of Klaus Linke's reply in the newsgroup thread:

Hi David,

A one-column table in a section with 3 "newspaper" style columns would be the only simple and automatic method I can think of.

For the table lines to fit together nicely, you'd need to set the width of the table equal the width of the "newspaper" column, and the left indent of he table equal to the left cell margin (Table > Table properties, table tab > Options). Any reason why you don't want to use "newspaper" columns?

Regards,
Klaus
