    C drive files

On my C hard drive I have a number of files named fhojawf0.V with a number from 100-104 following the V, then the extension is V10 to V99 then the extension is VI followed by 0 to 9.
    I'm running Windows '98.
    What are these files?
    Thanks,
    Jack

    My link to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ace.net.nz/tech/TechFileFormat.html#v>Every conceivable extension</A> suggests:

VI = Virtual Instrument file from National Instruments LABView product

Otherwise, a wild guess might be virus definitions?

Do the file creation dates mean anything to you?

    Re: C drive files

Thanks for your quick reply Leif but the dates don't mean a thing to me. I update my virus definitions every week and there are none dated 2001, so I assume they aren't virus definitions.

    Open Notepad and Explorer.
Drag a few from Explorer into Notepad and see if you can make anything of them.
If not, I suggest you create a new folder called "DeleteOnAug05", dump them in there. If Windows doesn't moan for a month . . . .

    Re: C drive files

I already had a look at some of them with Wordpad and they are a one-line string of incomprehensible code.
Your idea sounds reasonable. I may give it a try.
    Thanks for the help.

PS do you spend all your time examining these posts?
