Lining up columns in separate tables (2000 SR-1)

I have multiple tables where I want to drag the column boundary lines to line up perfectly with each other. How can I do this?

See <post:=536,070>post 536,070</post:> and note the limitations of the macro posted there.

Thank you, but I can't use that macro.

My tables don't match the criteria. My tables are outside the limitations of the macro.

Do you have merged cells? If so, only in the first row, or in other rows too? Or is there another problem?

In that case, a macro would have to be highly specific - it may be immediately apparent to your human eye which column borders you want to align to each other, but it won't be obvious to a dumb macro. You'd have to draw up a very precise "recipe" that describes how to match the columns.

I really would not prefer a macro, but a tecnique. I know in some instances (not tables) the gridlines can be changed to allow more precise placement of items.

The Drawing grid affects tables too.
Display the Drawing toolbar, and click Draw | Grid...
    Tick "Snap objects to grid".
Change the horizontal grid spacing* to (for example) 0.5"
    Click OK.

Dragging column borders with the mouse will now go in steps of 0.5".

Grid spacing is a per-document setting, so setting horizontal spacing to 0.5" will not affect other documents (unless you click Default...)

PERFECT! Didn't know grids worked for tables.
