IE Script Error (IE 6.0.2800.1106)

I foolishly let MS automatically update IE. Since then (about 3 weeks ago), I get a random message "Script error - Object does not support this property or method". The error message either points to Line 13; char "1" or Line 53: line "5" but the message is the same. I am offered the option of continuing or ending the script. If I continue, I do not notice any problem. If I end the script, I am out of IE and back to my desktop.

I tried to delete the latest set of installed downloads without success.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Can you associate this error with particular sites/pages?

In addition to security fixes, MS has changed the way that ActiveX controls start up. You often find that you have to click them before they do what they do. I'm not sure whether that could lead to scripting errors because the authors assumed the old behavior would continue, but it's another possibility and should be repeatable for all visitors using updated browsers.

You also can choose to ignore script errors and just let the script fail silently. If you are not actively developing web pages and are not curious about what makes them tick, this might be the best workaround. Visit IE's Tools>Internet options..., Advanced tab for checkboxes to turn off script error messages.
