Word Perfect to Word conversion problem (2003)

Guys, I just installed Word on my boss' computer but I can't open up his word perfect files.

I click on the install converter, show it the file it SAYS it's looking for (PRO11.msi) on the CD but it gives me an error and won't do it.

Anyone have any ideas? I've had to install this before but have never had problems and all his files are word. I guess I can do something else but I would like to do it this way and let word convert the files.
Also, I'll be looking to convert his Quatro Pro files to Excel

    Thanks for any help

    George

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Excel should be able to read spreadsheets created in older versions of Quattro Pro, but if you have problems with the WP converter, this one may not work either. Could the CD be damaged?

Perhaps downloading and installing Office File Converter Pack will help.

    Thanks Hans,

I downloaded this and installed it by double clicking but it still didn't work.

In ONE of the errors it said something about the options when I installed it.

Since I installed this on a couple of computers yesterday, I remember seeing something when installing on one of
the puters where it said something about installing all the options or features or something.
Would that mean something that had to do with converters?

    Thanks

I'm not an expert in installation matters, but we have several of them on Woody's Lounge, so I hope you'll get a reply soon.

Re: Word Perfect to Word conversion problem (2003)

I have always installed Office with the option(s) to run ALL programs from the hard drive. This will install ALL programs and most of the converters. I also will leave the "Install files" on the hard drive so I do not have to go and get the CD when ever it it needed.

Having done this, I have NOT had any problems in converting any of the WP files in to Word except when a new version of WP is released before a upgrade to Office.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Word Perfect to Word conversion problem (2003)

    Welcome to the Lounge!

It is very hard to give any advise to solve a problem, if the problem is described like this:
"it said something about installing all the options or features or something"

To find a solution we really need EXACT error message, even if it looks senseless to you.

To answer to your first question (Office Installer cannot recognize installation file on original CD), this is a known bug.
Workaround is: copy entire CD to the separate folder on your hard drive and point Office Installer to this folder when prompted.

For some information to solve your second problem (Office Converter Pack installation options), see
    Office Converter Pack

Please post exact errors you get (including an error message when you are trying to open WordPerfect document from Microsoft Word).

    To Dave and Kaplin

Your'e absolutely right. I need to know the exact error messages but I didn't remember it.

I'm still not done so when i do it again I will write the error down.

As for Dave, I did what you said and at least word did seem to work and convert, now I have to figure out Excel.

If I can't fix it, I will be back and if I can and you don't hear from me, thanks for all the help.

Have you tried to run the "Repair" from the Help menu?
