Printing to pdf issue (2003 SP2)

I am producing reports in Access with great success. There are lines drawn on the report to separate the 'details' from the subtotals.. when I print the report (looks great in Access) to pdf random lines are missing.

Sometimes I get lucky and the lines appear but I need to add something to make this work all the time. I don't have the time to retry over n over until it comes out as it should...

    Any thoughts???

If you want to convert to PDF, do the following:
    - Use Box (rectangle) controls instead of Line controls; it's OK if a Box is collapsed to height = 0 or width = 0.
    - Set Border Width to at least 1 point, i.e. avoid hairlines.

Re: Printing to pdf issue (2003 SP2)

It was looking lilke the perfect solution for the first try... then I tried again and the Box collapsed to height 0 was missing from the pdf.

I am grateful for the attemp but I guess I have to try something else.

I remember a few years ago I was having issues with graphs not workign on printing and there was some sort of requery of refresh i had to do n print... does that ring a bell as something that might help here? I really hate to over complicate this whole thing but on this report specifically - format is everything.

Did you also set the border width to at least 1 point? If that didn't help, you could try Stephen Lebans' ReportToPDF. I haven't tried it myself, but the author claims to have solved the missing lines problem.

Re: Printing to pdf issue (2003 SP2)

A couple of years back I had the same problem using Access 2k and Adobe Acrobat 5. We eventually found that by changing the resolution of the pdf printer we could force the lines to show. Since switching to Access 03 and Acrobat 6, we have not experienced the problem.

You might try modifiying the printer settings to see the effects.

I regularly make pdfs using PDF995 and (more recently) BullZip (both free) without encountering a problem with missing lines.

When creating the PDF file, make sure you are using PDF Distiller to ensure you capture all graphics. Try printing the access report to PDF using the Distiller choice to see if it makes a difference.
