    Word paste at startup (2003)

I have this strange problem with Word and Excel. Every time I open them a small bitmap is copied to the clipboard. I notice this because I often copy text, pics, etc., open Word and paste them in. Now, when I do this, instead of the item I want to paste, this small bitmap is pasted in. To see what was happening I open the clipboard, copy some text and it shows up in the clipboard. I then open Word and the text is replaced by the bitmap. Rebooting doesn't help (I've lived with this for a couple weeks, finally lost a large amount of text and decided to see if I can fix it). Office Repair doesn't fix it (ask me about my frustrations with DEP!!!) Any ideas? I have cleared the clipboard, still comes back. Can't find anything in Options, but there are so many places to look, I gave up. I have attached the bitmap if anyone thinks that will help.

Various add-ins use the clipboard to build their toolbars and menus. Can you match that image with any of them? If so, complain to the vendor.

Check which add-ins you have in Word and Excel - there's probably one of them that causes this. PDFMaker from Adobe would be a likely candidate.
You can follow the steps in Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000),197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000)<!/post> and Jan Karel Pieterse's Startup Problems (for Excel).

I was suspicous of pdfmaker.dot, which is the only active add-in. I uncheck the box, but next time I start Word it's checked again. I'l dig into it a little more next week. It's goin' home time! Thanks for the input.

To disable PDFMaker.dot completely, you must move it out of Word's Startup folder. Have a good weekend.
