Favorites file and backup (6.0.2900)

I did a bit of a search for this and could not find anything . Can someone tell me which file on my harddrive I should be backing up to protect my favourites from loss. I have quite a number of these and a number of folders, etc. Any insight that can be provided is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It's not one file, but a folder containing shortcuts and subfolders. In Windows 2000 and XP, it is the folder

    Cocuments and Settings<username>Favorites

One little trick I used to do when I used IE6 as my default browser was to use Export. Thi s created an HTML file that I could store away in a folder of my choice.

    If you goto

    File | Import and Export...

and then follow the wizard selecting Export Favourites as the choice you can keep it and if ever it goes awry just redo the wizard and you can import it.

Thanks Hans for the information and Jerry for the technique. Both are graciously appreciated.
