Change city colour in merged address block (Word 2003)

    Hi,
Is there a way to change the colour of the city in an address block? After I toggle to view field codes, I select the city portion of the address, and change the colour to blue. After updating the field and toggling back to see the merge, the city is still black!! Any ideas?

PS: I had to revert into adding the individual fields myself (using the Insert Merge Field Button) to eventually do this...but is it possible in the address block?

    Tx
    Regards,
    Rudi

No, you'll have to use individual merge fields.

Thankyou....I notice that if I select the entire address block, it changes to blue, so I understand then that Word sees the block as one field, not as several individuals.

    Cheers

The name "block" seems suggestive somehow...

    Hi Rudi,

If you can access the individual fields within the address block, then you should be able change the formatting of any one or more of them via the Charformat switch. Simply:
. select the field you want to change
. press Shift-F9 to expose the field code
. add '* Charformat' to the end (delete '* Mergeformat' if its there)
. format the 'M' in 'MERGEFIELD' as blue
    . run your mailmerge.
    Cheers,

Macropod, there are no individual mergefields within an address block. An address block is an ADDRESSBLOCK field with indications of the field that are to be used in a string with a special syntax.
