    Recovering IE 6 (SR-1)

I (oops!) tried installing IE7. YuK!

But when I reverted to IE6, something is messed up.

Now, when I try to re-install 6, I get a message that install cannot proceed because there's a newer version already.

How do I tell the install to ignore that and re-install 6?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point before you installed IE7?

No, I didn't think it would go that far, but I will, thanks.

    Hans / Doc:

Restoring IE 6 didn't do it all.

There were a lot of viewing issues with Outlook that had gotten fouled up (like making all the sent items blue print on a dark gray background) that didn't get resolved.

BUT, it does seem that the Restore Point did the rest.

I really didn't think Restore would "go that deep" in a fix. Silly Me.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

IE6 is part of the "system". Thus, in theory, System Restore should work. But we are talking about a Microsoft product here. <img src=/S/disappointed.gif border=0 alt=disappointed width=15 height=15> Glad it all worked out. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I guess I'm just more surprised that with the size and complexity of even an initial bare-bones setup, backing up (and restoring) the key pieces would be a lot more involved...

makes me wonder sometimes how we got from the 2-4 floppy setup for W4W to the monster they say that Vista is -- 2 DVD's!?
