Precision of a number in a formula (excel 2000)

    Hi everyone,

I am having trouble figuring out why my formula is returing the wrong answer for a muliplication
    =IF(ISERROR(MATCH(Q147,ChemicalShortList,0)),0,IF( ChemicalTotalsInStageNames,0,OFFSET(INPUT!$B$566,M ATCH(Q147,ChemicalShortList,0),8)))+Procedure!I137

    which returns the number 51.7

    in another cell i multiply this 51.7 * 32.00
and excel gives the answer of 1653.42

    and it should be 1654.40

does any one know what my problem is?

The result of the first formula is probably not exactly 51.7, but about 51.67. You see 51.7 either because the cell is formatted to display only one decimal place, or because the column is so narrow that only one decimal place can be displayed. If you need the result of the first formula to be exactly 51.7, use the ROUND function:

    =ROUND(IF(ISERROR(MATCH(Q147,ChemicalShortList,0)) ,0,IF(ChemicalTotalsInStageNames,0,OFFSET(INPUT!$B $566,MATCH(Q147,ChemicalShortList,0),8)))+Procedur e!I137,1)
