    Notepad stay maximized (WXP-SP2)

I open Notepad and try to cut from another page and then paste into Notepad. When performing any operation (type text, cut, etc.) Notepad automatically minimizes and I have to maximize it again in order to paste. Is there any way to force Notepad to stay maximized in the background?

Could you tell us a little more about the specifics of what you're doing? What's the other application name that you might have open? I'm wondering if it could be doing something to make Notepad go minimized. When you switch from this application TO Notepad, are you using the Alt-Tab method to get there?

The reason for the question is that I opened Notepad and another text editor which I regularly use - NoteTab Light. I tried with one or both in maximized state and less than full screen. I typed, copied, switched via alt-tab and pasted, etc. etc. and didn't have the problem. Right off hand, I can't come up with a reason for an app going minimized because it loses "focus."

I just realized that the Notepad page isn't getting minimized it's getting moved behind all of my open windows. I think in some cases I'd like it to stay on top. Any way of doing that?

I can certainly understand that. If you don't find one of the programs in Leif's link acceptable or necessary, you might try just running the two programs in less than maximized state so you can see at least part of both windows. I use this method on occasion 'cause I don't like the tile method. At least if you can see both windows, it's easy to single-click from one to the other.

You can resize the windows to fit side by side on the screen or one over the other and work with them that way. For your purpose here I would work with one above the other.

Thanks, all. Leif's recommendation to "Try post 579,858" yielded the DeskPins program which does just what I want. Thanks again.
